RECIPE OF THE WEEK: Chocolate Berry Trifle
Looking for a Thanksgiving dessert that will be light and relatively healthy, but also be a crowd pleaser? Trifles are such an easy dessert with so many variations that you can really make it your own. My favorite is this berry chocolate trifle using a light angel food cake and vanilla pudding.
Start by making the whipped cream. In a bowl combine the whipping cream, confectioners sugar and vanilla. Mix on high until it is a thick whipped cream texture. Set aside. Make the vanilla pudding according to the directions on the box and also set aside.
Break up the angel food cake into about 3 inch cubes and place in layer in the bottom of your trifle dish. Then do a layer of the vanilla pudding. Then place a layer of berries on top. Finally layer the whipped cream and then grate the chocolate bar on top.
Repeat the layers again 2 more times which should bring you to the top of the trifle dish. On the top layer of whipped cream, I usually do some grated chocolate and then place the berries around the perimeter and a few in a small circle in the center. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
