November QUIZ: Thanksgiving Foods Nutritional Values

In this last month's quiz, we asked how well you knew the nutritional values of some of the popular foods on Thanksgiving.  It becomes pretty eye opening when you really break it down as to how much we typically eat on Thanksgiving!  Here are the answers:

Question 1: In a portion size of about 3.5 ounces of white meat turkey without skin (about the size of a deck of cards) what is the approximate nutritional breakdown?
Answer: 175 calories, 6 grams of fat, 30 grams of protein. About 66% of you got this one right!

Question 2: What is the nutritional breakdown of 1/2 cup of a sweet potato casserole?
Answer: 150 calories, 9 grams of fat, 4 grams of protein, 14 grams of sugar.  Only one right answer on this one.  LOTS of sugar in this dish.  Opt for roasted sweet potatoes instead for a healthier option!

Question 3: How many grams of sugar are in 1/4 cup of Ocean Spray Cranberry Sauce?
Answer: 24 grams of sugar.  About half of you got the right answer here.  Lots of extra added sugars in cranberry sauce and many times high fructose corn syrup lingers in there as well! Opt for homemade cranberry sauce and use a natural sweetener like honey or coconut sugar instead.

Question 4: How many calories are in 1 glass (5 oz.) of red wine?
Answer: 125 calories.  Only 1 right answer here too! You can imagine how those empty calories can add up quickly!

Question 5: What would be the healthiest dessert option out of the following: 1 slice of pumpkin pie, 1 slice of apple pie, 1 slice of pecan pie?
Answer: Pumpkin Pie is the healthiest.  Lots of fiber, Vitamin A, Vitamin B12, Vitamin K, and Iron provide nutrients that the body needs.
