MONDAY MOTIVATION: Reward Yourself
Are you struggling to stay on track? Try using a reward system as a way to keep you motivated. Now, by rewards I don't mean stopping at Dairy Queen or Friendly's and indulging in the biggest sundae you can find :) ... but instead, allow yourself to have a special treat that you wouldn't normally have. It doesn't have to be food either ... it could be a massage or mani/pedi or new workout gear or an expensive bottle of wine, etc. If it is food, try to keep it reasonable but still enough to satisfy your craving! Some ideas might include your own personal sized version of this Chocolate Berry Trifle or something from this Indulgent Healthy Desserts list.
Think about what your goals are in the long-term and then broken out by 6 months, by quarter, by month and by week. If your goal is to workout 3 days a week for a month straight then set your reward at the end of the month. To help hold yourself accountable, post up a calendar in your kitchen or where others can see it and check off your workouts each week.
And remember, although some research says it takes 21 days to form a new habit, many believe this is too short and other research says more like 66 days. So, if after 1 or even 2 months, you are still struggling to stick with it, don't be surprised. But if you hang in there for a bit longer, it will get easier and become part of your every day life.
